What is Solar Energy
Solar Energy is the Energy that is extracted from the Sun with the help of Solar panel. Sun rays consist of photons which are considered as an energy packet, when these energy packets or photons hits the Solar panel at the speed of light (c = 3x10^8 m/sec) electron is released inside the solar panel which moves out from positive terminal of solar panel and returns back through load in the panel's negative terminal.
lets see this in more detail
How does Solar Cell Works
Solar cell is made of n type and p type Semiconductor p type semiconductor is doped in such a way that it contains less electrons thus makes positive terminal and n type semiconductor on the other hand doped with a material such that it has more electrons thus makes negative terminal.
in a semiconductor devices when Silicon (Si) which has 4 valence electron is doped with impurity with 5 valence electrons such as phosphorus, Arsenic it makes n type.
similarly when a Si is doped with impurity which has 3 valence electrons such as Boron, Gallium it makes p type semiconductor.
thus when sunrays containing photons hits the solar cell in the n type electron is released and moves out through the n type terminal (+) and through the load it comes back to the p type (-) terminal again due the energy from photons same electron receives energy and jumps out of the valence band and moves to n type and than through load and again n type thus this process continues.
Solar Energy Uses
Today Solar energy is used in number of ways such as
1. Solar cooker for cooking
2. heating water, heating buildings
4. Generate electricity with the help of solar cells (Solar Power plants )
5. Drying cloths and domestic stuff
6. portable Solar charger
7. Charging Batteries
8. Solar Transportation
Pros and Cons of Solar Energy
Pros of Solar energy
1. Lowers the electricity bill
2. Eco friendly electricity due to Carbon less electricity
4. prevents overloading on grid
5. can be easily accessible to remote areas
Cons of Solar Energy
1. doesn't work with every rooftop
2. need specific location where sunlight can be accessible
3 ineffective during Raining and cloudy seasons
4. power generated is not constants and thus needs power storage device such as battery
5. Expensive panels
6. not suitable for people living staying on rent i.e. not movable
