Volkswagen MEB stands for Modularer E-Antriebs Baukasten in German, which in english translates to Modular electric drive Matrix or Modular Electric Propulsion platform.
This model is used in the Volkswagen and its subsidiaries Skoda, Audi, SEAT. The MEB platform will be implemented in all fully electric ID. series of Volkswagen, this includes from compact cars to lifestyle MPVs.
The first MEB-based model will be the compact Volkswagen I.D. the series production will begin at the end of 2019 or at the start of 2020. It is assumed that total of 22 million of vehicles will be manufactured for US, China and Europe market.
as compared to Volkswagen previous platform of MQB (Modular transverse toolkit) MEB is complement of this, because of the conceived chassis in all ID. series the interior space is enhanced.
for creating the chassis, combustion engine and transmission were removed and electric motor is placed in the rear of the motor and the front seats are moved forward therefore creating the more space for the passenger. to enable the battery on the floor ground clearance is also increased which also gives driver a better overview of traffic.
The battery of the ID. series is based on the scalable module, which means that power can be increased as per the requirement. the base version has power capacity of 45kwh and has a WLTP range of 330km , the other extends upto 550km.

IONITY is a joint venture between two charging station manufacturer with the power rating of 125kW and 350kW respectively. IONITY network includes not only Volkswagen but also BMW, Diamler, Ford throught the Europe. maximum distance between two charging station is 120 km with a charging speed of maximum 30 minutes upto 80% of battery capacity.
for the ID. series VW also provides its own charging solution called wallbox designed for home charging solution which is a low wallbox whereas The “high” wallbox model is designed for user-chooser fleets and has billing capability.

In the MEB, a system designed strictly for electric vehicles, the wheelbase can be lengthened and body overhangs reduced, resulting in more dynamic proportions.
The designers used this as their basis to create a standalone design DNA for the new zero-emission vehicles. The larger wheelbase creates much larger and more versatile vehicle interiors.
The car will be connected to the Internet throughout its entire service life and will be capable of receiving system updates and upgrades over the air as a result. Of course, the vehicle will be constantly connected to users via their mobile devices.
These users will be able to access system data and manage certain functions while they are on the go, among other things.
Three high-performance computers – the in-car application servers, or ICAS – will enable MEB vehicles to drive autonomously in the medium term and will facilitate highly automated, stage 3 driving.
The vehicle will then be able to drive completely by itself on long trips and in certain traffic situations like freeways. But the driver must be able to take control within a matter of seconds to deal with things such as construction sites.
Augmented reality displays like the current head-up display in a virtual version are planned for MEB vehicles.
