Shell is an Oil company which faced many pressure in the past for generating Carbon and emitting it in the environment, this move by the company is really favorable and it is expected that the shareholders of the Shell are now thinking about the future and they know that the future belongs to lithium or  EV but notOil.

The car-charging network includes more than 2,700 charge points across the UK, or 13% of the existing market share, and more than 1,500 charge points across Germany and France.

Ubitricity, founded in Germany, is a leading provider of on-street charging for electric vehicles. It holds 13.1% of the UK’s car charging points market. BP Pulse comes in second, at 12%. (Tesla Supercharger is 2.9%.)

This acquisition marks Shell’s expansion into the fast-growing on-street EV charging market and will provide critical competencies, helping Shell to scale its overall EV charging offer,” Shell said in a statement.

István Kapitány, the head of Shell’s global mobility business, said ubitricity’s work with local authorities to fit car chargers to existing street infrastructure such as lamp-posts and bollards would help make owning an electric vehicle more convenient.

On-street options such as the lamp-post charging offered by ubitricity will be key for those who live and work in cities or have limited access to off-street parking,” he said.

Whether at home, at work or on the go, we want to provide our customers with accessible and affordable EV [electric vehicle] charging options so they can charge up no matter where they are.

Shell has installed its own chargers at its gas stations, invested in other charging companies, and acquired EV charging companies outright over the past few years. Ubitricity firmly puts Shell’s presence on the UK’s streets.

  1. Why the heck isn't this a thing all over? Why build dedicated charge stations when we can tap into existing infrastructure that's already built out? Just install an internet activated AC plug in the light poles and power poles we already have.
