California based company Hyperion has unveiled a hydrogen powered car, the company claims that this will change the public perception for hydrogen car.

the model is named as hyperion XP-1 whuch drives upto 1000 miles of one tank of compressed hydrogen gas, motor power generated to be more 1000 hp. the all wheel drive model goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour within 2 sec.

instead of high voltage battery of 400V or 800V to drive the motor hydrogen is used as a fuel to generate the high voltage from a fuel cell stacks. the vehicles only emission is water, that is generated by hydrogen and oxygen.

the XP-1 has much longer range as compared to lithium battery powered vehicle per liter. comparing the lithium pack and hygrogen fuel cell of same energy hydrogen weighs less, which makes vehicles lighter and faster, thus more fuel efficient. startup company Nikola is also launching the hydrogen powered semis and mini trucks.

the challenge that Fuel cell faces is the hydrogen filling station unlike petrol and electric charging stations which are available in plenty, for this there is a little need of government support.

before using hydrogen it has to broken down from water splitting hydrogen and oxygen, the hydrogen received from the station is filled in the vehicle tank and needs a little energy to combine hydrogen and oxygen, when this happens energy is released and used to power the vehicle. the filling time of hydrogen is far less than the charging time of vehicle

hydrogen gas isn't subjected to degradation, wear and tear  as compared to li-ion batteries, thiugh the pricing is not yet revealed by the company but expected to deliver by the end of next year. the company also hold licenses of NASA hydrogen technology to work for space program.
